Why you are not too young to have pelvic floor issues

Most people assume that it is only older women that have bladder or bowel problems, or problems 'down below' but you could be in your teens or early twenties and have signs of a weak pelvic floor. What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a hammock-like group of muscles that stretch from the tail bone at the back to the pubic bone at the front and support your bladder, bowel and uterus.

What can go wrong?

Do you 'leak' when you laugh, jump or cough? The pelvic floor muscles can become weak, this can be caused by having a prolonged cough, heavy lifting, straining on the loo, high impact exercise, obesity, pelvic surgery, pregnancy and childbirth.
