Electrostimulation

Electro stimulation is also known as electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) or neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation. It is the triggering of muscle contraction using electrical impulses. Electro stimulation is gaining popularity especially amongst sportsmen and women and in the fields of muscle rehabilitation.

For women the electrical impulses are generated by a device such as the Kegel8 Ultra and the Kegel8 Tight and Tone and delivered via a vaginal electrode inside the vagina in direct proximity to the pelvic floor muscles to be stimulated, or via the skin by using skin electrodes to stimulate the tibial nerve or sacral nerve.

Men can also use electrostimulation or EMS on the pelvic floor muscles with a medical device such as the Kegel8 For Men. This EMS home-use machine uses an anal probe, or via the skin by using skin electrodes to stimulate the tibial nerve or sacral nerve.

The electrical impulses mimic the action potential coming from the central nervous system, causing the muscles to contract. Skin electrodes as well as vaginal electrodes and anal electrodes can be used to transmit the signals to trigger the muscles to respond. Stimulation of the muscles helps them to get strong and health and encourage blood flow. Many clinical papers show how effective electro stimulation is in the rehabilitation of weak and damaged muscles.
