Transobturator technique

What is The Transobturator Technique?

The transobturator technique (TOT) sling procedure uses very small incisions in the groin (one on each side) and the same small incision is made in the vagina under the urethra, allowing mesh tape to be placed under the urethra creating a support sling. There is essentially minimum risk of major bleeding (no major blood vessels), bowel and bladder or nerve injury.)

TOT is similar to the TVT operation tension-free vaginal tape.

The vaginal tape is surgically fitted in a different way in TOT, this may make it safer but it is too early to give clinical results confirming this. TOT may be safer because there is less chance that the bowel or blood vessels will be injured.
