Cystitis

Also known as a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and is caused by a bacteria in the bladder.

Cystitis is an inflammation of the urinary bladder, sometimes involving the tube that drains urine from the bladder, called the urethra. (See also Interstitial Cystitis which has similar symptoms, but is different from bacterial cystitis.)

Cystitis is more common in women possibly because they have a short urethra making it easier for bacteria to find their way into the bladder. Frequent bouts of cystitis can be a sign that the pelvic floor is weak and a regimen of kegel exercises should be performed. This will help to strengthen the muscles which stops bacteria entering the urethra and bladder.
