Exercise Induced Urine Leakage

Exercise Induced Urine Leakage (EIUL) or Exercise Induced Urinary Incontinence is the new term used for stress incontinence when exercising. Originally featured on the You Tube film of the Reebok Cross Fit Games Regional Finals in June 2013 it highlighted one of the potential problems of this high impact exercise.

What is Exercise Induced Urine Leakage?

The three minute film created a stir when one of the cross fit contestants says 'Ladies in my professional opinion as a Gynaecologist its OK to pee your pants on a double under' (skipping exercise).

It is difficult to see how she meant that. As a pelvic floor professional she will deal with the fall-out (literally) of weak pelvic floors on a daily basis and will be no stranger to pelvic surgery. Did she mean it in a 'don't be ashamed, be open about it, and don't let it stop you exercising' kind of way? Surely she didn't mean it is 'OK' to ignore a weak pelvic floor?

Sadly no one in the film actually comments about targeted pelvic floor exercise to help prevent this because any exercise induced leakage or incontinence - basically peeing your pants - means that there is undue pressure on your pelvic floor.

So let's make a Kegel8 pact - here and now  - It is OK to admit when you pee your pants but it is not OK if you don't do anything about it.
