Trigger Points

What Are Trigger Points?

Trigger points, trigger sites or muscle knots are tender spots within muscle that are caused by overloading of the muscle. These ‘knots’ or taut bands of muscle fibres are often felt in the neck or upper back and can cause a stabbing or burning pain. What a lot of men and women do not realise is that pelvic floor muscles are also susceptible to trigger points.

Pelvic floor trigger points can be brought on by stress, organ pain such as cramps, hip problems and a ‘tight’ pelvic floor.

Pelvic Floor nerves are very close to bladder and spinal nerves, so if the pelvic floor becomes a trigger point or a tender spot the bladder can also be affected causing pelvic pain and urge incontinence or urinary frequency (overactive bladder). Relaxation may be the answer to the pain of Trigger points and the Kegel8 Ultra can help with its Physiotherapy designed pelvic floor relaxation programme.
