Vaginal Dryness

What is Vaginal Dryness?

Vaginal dryness is also know as vaginal atrophy and is medically defined as vaginal tissue that has less elasticity and less moisture; it can be a real problem for women as they enter menopause. The lack of natural vaginal moisture impacts on daily living as well as during intimacy and is commonly linked with urine incontinence problems such as stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Vaginal Dryness is cause by reduced oestrogen levels; this typically happens around the time of menopause but can also be a result of early menopause, or following hysterectomy. Reduced oestrogen levels mean that vaginal and vulvar tissue lose both their elasticity and the ability for the vaginal tissue to secrete fluid.

  • Vaginal dryness can be felt with normal daily activities and supplementary vaginal moisturiser such as a lubricant is advised.
  • Vaginal and vulvar tissue becomes susceptible to bacterial and fungal or yeast infections such as bacterial vaginosis and Thrush.
  • Urinary incontinence, urinary frequency and overactive bladder

Kegel8 and Vaginal Dryness

You might find that if you have vaginal dryness, you also have bladder weakness and incontinence. So you want to use a Kegel8 to strengthen your muscles and pelvic floor and stop incontinence. However you might find that when you use a Kegel8 electronic exerciser it is painful to insert the probe, and the electrical signals feel sharp and painful. If this is the case you have to address the vaginal atrophy symptoms first before you can continue. If you don't want to use a vaginal atrophy natural remedy you can visit your GP and he/she can prescribe you topical Oestrogen cream.

Unlike HRT treatment a topical oestrogen cream works directly on vaginal tissue not on the entire body, preferable to many women. Use this, or the natural remedy for at least four weeks to plump and invigorate the vaginal lining and you will be able to proceed with Kegel8 pelvic floor exercise to combat the incontinence problems.
