FAQ's

How Does an Electronic Toner Work?

What is the Difference Between the Kegel8 Toners?

The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner is our most advanced unit, offering you the best and quickest results. It comes with 20 preset programmes and the option to use electrode pads on the skin. It is the only unit offering programmes especially designed for prolapse, and bowel incontinence treatment without the required use of an anal probe.

The Kegel8 Ultra Vitality Electronic Pelvic Toner comes with 11 preset programmes, and is recommended for moderate problems, such as incontinence, pelvic floor weakness, or lack of sensation.

The Kegel8 Tight & Tone Electronic Pelvic Toner can be used for mild issues and is mainly recommended as a preventative measure.

The Kegel8 V For Men Pelvic Toner is the revolutionary digital pelvic floor toner designed especially for men. It helps to strengthen and invigorate the male pelvic floor.

The Kegel8 Biofeedback Pelvic Trainer measures your squeeze against the probe to help you monitor your strength. This is a manual toner where you do the exercises.

What Do I Do after the 12 Week Exercise Programme?

If you have achieved the results that you were looking for during your 12 weeks, you can move on to the maintenance programme which is 2-3 times a week.

If you feel that there is still room for improvement, carry on with the same programme until you achieve the results you are happy with; then you can move on to the maintenance programme.

How High Should the mA be Set on My Kegel8 Toner?

The higher the milliamp (mA), the more you will feel your pelvic floor muscle contractions. You can see the mA's on the screen of your controller. You can slowly increase the mA's by pressing the '+' button, once your probe or electrode pads are attached. You should not aim to have the mA's set as high as possible, as this could potentially overwork the muscles and worsen your condition. As soon as you feel a tingling or knocking sensation, stop increasing the mA's, and let the controller run through the programme. There is no specific mA figure that you should be aiming for.

Different programmes will feel different and you may even feel varying sensations throughout a programme.

Help! The Battery Doesn't Fit in my Kegel8 Toner!

Make sure that you have the correct sized battery for your device. Kegel8 Electronic Toner's use a single alkaline 9-volt battery. Make sure that the protective sticker on your battery has been fully removed, and ensure the battery is fitted the correct way round.

Why Are There Different Times on the Display Screen?

On all Kegel8 Electronic Toners, the time displayed on the left shows you the full duration of the programme, while the time shown on the right indicates how long there is left for the phase of the programme.

Why Does the mA Drop After a Few Minutes?

Each programme on your Kegel8 is different, and some have multiple phases within a programme. For your comfort, the mA's will drop as a phase changes.

If you need to increase the intensity, this can be manually adjusted during the programme; just press the '+' button so that you can feel the sensation again.

Can Kegel8 be Used when Coil or Mesh is Fitted?

All Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toners are safe to be used with both a contraceptive coil and/or if you have surgical mesh fitted.

Can I Use Kegel8 While On My Period?

You can use Kegel8 while you're having your period. However, we do recommend stopping during heavy flow days as the probe is more likely to move.

You may wish to use the electrode pads on the skin rather than a vaginal probe during your period.

Can Kegel8 Toners Be Used During Pregnancy?

There have been no clinical trials on the effects of electrical stimulation on pregnant women and their baby. This is not something that can be ethically tested. This means that we are unaware of the potential risks it could cause to both the mother and the baby.

We do not recommend you use the Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner during pregnancy, unless your clinician has advised you to do so. Instead, we recommend you continue your pelvic floor exercises manually.

Can a Kegel8 Toner Be Used With Oestrogen Cream?

Using your Kegel8 toner when you have vaginal atrophy can be uncomfortable. Prescription oestrogen cream can help with this.

Wait a month after you start using the oestrogen cream before using your Kegel8 Electronic Toner again. You can then use them alongside each other, but make sure you wait for the cream to be absorbed before using your Kegel8.

Can I Use a Kegel8 Toner with a Pacemaker Fitted?

The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner and the Kegel8 V For Men Pelvic Toner can be used with some pacemakers. Please check with your healthcare provider first.

Can I Use a Kegel8 Toner Whilst Having Cancer Treatment?

If you have an active pelvic cancer, do not use electrical stimulation, unless your clinician has advised you to do so.

We recommend that you do your exercises manually whist undergoing treatment - use the Kegel8 Vaginal Cones to ensure your pelvic floor remains strong.

How Long Do I Have to Wait to Use a Kegel8 Toner After Surgery?

We recommend you wait at least 12 weeks after surgery before using your Kegel8 Electronic Toner. Speak to your surgeon or consultant for confirmation.

You may wish to use the electrode pads on the skin rather than the vaginal probe for the first few times after surgery.

How Long Do I Have to Wait to Use a Kegel8 Toner After Pregnancy?

Once you've given birth, you'll definitely need the help of your Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner.

We recommend that you wait until at least your 6-week checkup before using your Kegel8 Electronic Toner again. Speak to your midwife if you have any questions.

How Often Should You Use Your Kegel8 Toner?

If you're starting the Kegel8 12-week challenge, use your toner everyday or every other day for the first 4 weeks. After that, you can use it up to twice a day, keeping the sessions at least 8 hours apart.

Please note: The Kegel8 Ultra20 can only be used once a day.

If you have achieved the results you were hoping for during these 12 weeks, move on to the maintenance programme of 2-3 times a week. If you think there's still room for improvement, carry on with the same programme.

When Can I Not Use a Kegel8 Toner?

  • If you have an active pelvic cancer, unless advised to do so by your clinician.
  • If you are using oestrogen cream, wait one month before using your Kegel8 again.
  • If you have a pacemaker fitted, check with your healthcare provider before using a Kegel8 Toner.
  • If you're pregnant, we do not recommend using an electronic toner.
  • If you've recently given birth, we recommend you wait until your 6-week checkup before using Kegel8 again.
  • If you have had pelvic surgery, we recommend you wait at least 12 weeks after surgery before using an electronic toner. Speak with your surgeon or consultant for confirmation.
  • If you are receiving any medical treatment, or have any ongoing health issues, we recommend you speak with your doctor before using a Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner.

Can I Use the Kegel8 Lying Down?

When using a Kegel8 electronic pelvic toner, with either a vaginal or anal probe, we recommend sitting upright as this helps the electrodes on the probe correctly connect with your muscle bed.

However, as long as you're in a comfortable position and you're feeling the sensation and the mA's on your toner increasing correctly, feel free to move around.

If you find that your probe becomes dislodged, try sitting with your knees tightly together to help keep the probe in place.

Is Kegel8 Available on Prescription?

Some Kegel8 products are available with an NHS prescription. Currently, the Kegel8 Vaginal Cones are available on prescription from your GP, so if you are eligible for a free prescription, you can get your Kegel8 Vaginal Cones for free.

If you are considered chronically sick, or have a disabling condition by reason of incontinence, you can purchase the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Toner VAT free; click here for more information.
