Getting Started With the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner

Important update to the video: Please note, the vaginal probe should only be inserted approximately 2 inches into your vagina. Ensure the base and wires remain outside of your body during use. If you have a prolapse, it is often easier to insert the probe when you are lying on your back with a pillow under your bum or lower back. In this position the prolapse will not be putting pressure on the probe and it is therefore easier to insert. To learn more about using a vaginal probe, watch the video Getting Started With the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe.

  1. Insert the battery into the battery cover leaving the red ribbon strip under the battery.
  2. Attach the lead wire: Insert the white end of the lead wire into channel A at the top left of the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner. Insert the two wires of the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe into the black and red connectors at the other end of the lead wire.
  3. Insert the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe: Hold the probe at it's base and insert it into your vagina with the electrodes (gold parts) facing hip-to-hip. The base and wires of the probe stay outside of your vagina. We recommend using a few drops of the Kegel8 KE GEL Kegel Exercise Lubricant to make your probe easier to insert and to make sure the electrical current transfers to your muscles efficiently. Watch the quick video below for more information on using the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe.
  4. Press the ON button, then press the PRG button until the screen shows the programme that you wish to use. If it's your first time using the Kegel8 Ultra 20, select P01 Sensitivity Test.
  5. Press the + button on the left hand side to start your programme. Keep pressing the + button until you feel the machine giving your muscles a strong pull, but not so that it is uncomfortable. The machine will switch off when the programme is complete.

Run P01 Sensitivity Test

When you use your Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner with a vaginal probe for the first time, start with the P01 Sensitivity Test. As you increase the mAs, if you feel a sensation at below 50mA, you can move on and start to use your choice of programme.

If you cannot feel a sensation below 50mA, run programme P01 for 4 weeks twice a day. After 4 weeks, do the sensitivity test on P02. If you can feel a sensation under 50 mA’s at this point you can then move onto your normal programme. If you still cannot feel a sensation under 50mA then continue to use P02 programme for a further 4 weeks twice a day.

Please make sure you have a small tear size amount of Kegel8 KE GEL Kegel Exercise Lubricant on both electrodes (the gold parts) of the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe and that the probe is inserted approximately 2 inches into the vagina with the electrodes facing hip to hip. We also recommending sitting up while doing your exercises to help the probe connect with the muscle bed most efficiently.

If you followed all of the above and are still having problems, it is possible that you may have nerve damage. This is very common with women especially after they’ve had children and is nothing to worry about. Simply set up your mA according to the side you can feel it the most at. We also offer dual channel probes which will allow you to increase the mA on each side of the pelvic floor separately.

Getting Started With the Skin Electrode Pads

If you wish to use the skin electrode pads that come with your Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner, you do not need to run the P01 Sensitivity Test. The electrode pads work by conducting electrical pulses from the toner, stimulating the muscles and nerve fibres that reach into your pelvic area.

To stimulate the tibial nerve, place your electrode pads on the inside of one of your ankles and insert the lead wire into channel B at the top right of the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner. To stimulate the sacral nerve, place your electrode pads on your lower back. Watch the videos below for more information.

Take care when increasing the power to your electrode pads as your skin is sensitive. We recommend that you do not increase the power above 15mA, as a power higher than this could cause physical harm (skin burns). Power greater than 15mA could also cause damage to your electrode pads.

If you wish to use a vaginal probe and skin electrode pads at the same time, please be aware that channel A, with the vaginal probe connected, will need a much higher amount of power (usually 30mA or more).

What Programmes Do You Recommend For...?

General Pelvic Floor Exercise Programmes

The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner has 3 great programmes for pelvic floor exercise. We recommend you begin with P03 Pelvic Exercises once or twice per day. Once you feel that your muscles are getting stronger and this programme is no longer a challenge, we recommend you move on to P04 Intense Pelvic Exercises once or twice per day. Use a vaginal probe for best results. When you are happy with your results, you can maintain them by doing P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

  • P03 (EXE1) - Pelvic Exercises
  • P04 (EXE2) - Intense Pelvic Exercises
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Improve Intimate Sensation Programmes

There are 3 programmes on the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner to help improve intimate sensation for both you and your partner. The programme you choose depends on your concern.

To tighten your vaginal walls and improve vaginal sensation - use P06 with a vaginal probe once or twice per day. To squeeze your muscles for longer during sex - use P07 with a vaginal probe once or twice per day. For increased sensation - use P08 once per day. This is a very powerful programme – you should not go higher than 25mA with the probe, or 15mA with the skin electrodes. Once you are happy with results, use P05 Weekly Maintenance twice per week to maintain.

  • P06 (SIMP) - Sensation Improvement
  • P07 (ENDU) - Pelvic Floor Endurance
  • P08 (SENS) - Pelvic Floor Sensitivity
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Stress Incontinence Programmes

If you find that you suffer leaks when you laugh, cough, sneeze, run or jump, this is stress incontinence.

We recommend that you start by using programme P10 Intermediate Stress Incontinence once or twice per day. As your symptoms improve, you can move on to P11 Gentle Stress Incontinence. Use a vaginal probe for best results. Once you are happy with your results, you can maintain them by doing P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

  • P10 (STR1) - Intermediate Stress Incontinence
  • P11 (STR2) - Gentle Stress Incontinence
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Urge and Frequency Incontinence, and Mixed Incontinence Programmes

If you find that you need to go to the toilet too often, or if it’s a case of ‘when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go’ this is urge or frequency incontinence. If you suffer from a mix of urge, frequency, and/or stress incontinence, we recommend that you use P12 Mixed Incontinence once or twice per day. This programme should only be used with skin electrodes, applied as seen in the diagram ‘4 Back Electrodes’. See Getting Started With the Skin Electrode Pads for more information. When you are happy with your results, you can maintain them by doing P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

  • P12 (MIXD) - Mixed Incontinence: Urge/Frequency/Stress
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Bowel Incontinence Programmes

If you are suffering from bowel incontinence, we recommend a combination of programmes used with a vaginal probe for best results.

For more severe bowel incontinence - use P16 for 3 days, then P03 for 2 days, then repeat the cycle. For less severe bowel incontinence - use P17 for 3 days, then P03 for 2 days, then repeat the cycle. Once you are happy with your results, maintain them with P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

  • P16 (BOW1) - Bowel (faecal) incontinence 1
  • P17 (BOW2) - Bowel (faecal) incontinence 2
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Post Natal Incontinence Programmes

If you are suffering from leaks after having a baby, we advise you use a mixture of programmes with a vaginal probe to get the best results.

Use P15 for 3 days, followed by P03 Pelvic Exercise for 2 days. Repeat this cycle. Once you are happy with the results, maintain them by using P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

  • P15 (PNC2) - Post Natal Incontinence 2
  • P03 (EXE1) - Pelvic Exercises
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

Pain Relief Programmes

The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner features 3 programmes especially for pain relief, and which one you use depends on what is causing your pelvic pain.

For Period Pain, Pelvic Pain & Vulvodynia use P18 which is a great TENS programme. Use this programme with skin electrodes applied as seen in the diagram ‘4 back electrodes’ of the guide included with your Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner. You can use this programme for as long as, and as often as you need.

If you suffer from tight pelvic muscles or muscle cramps, use P19 with a vaginal probe.

For Pelvic Tightness and Vaginal Tightness, use P20 with a vaginal probe. This programme works at a very low frequency to help really relax your pelvic muscles and ease pain.

  • P18 (PAIN) - Electrode Pads Chronic Back Pain Relief
  • P19 (CIRC) - Pelvic Pain & Circulation
  • P20 (RELX) - Pelvic Pain & Relaxation

Prolapse Programmes

Pelvic floor exercise can help you to manage the symptoms of a pelvic organ prolapse and can help to prevent it from getting worse. If you have a prolapse, we recommend a combination of programmes, used with a vaginal probe to get the best results.

For a Mild Prolapse (Grades 1 & 2), use P14 Mild Prolapse for 3 days, then P03 Pelvic Exercise for 2 days then repeat the cycle until you feel that your prolapse has improved. You can then maintain your results by using P05 Weekly Maintenance 2-3 times a week.

  • P14 (PNC1) - Post Natal Incontinence 1
  • P03 (EXE1) - Pelvic Exercises
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance

For Moderate/Severe Prolapse (Grades 3 & 4), use P15 Moderate Prolapse for 3 days, then P03 Pelvic Exercise for 2 days then repeat the cycle until you feel that your prolapse has improved. You can then move on to the cycle we recommend for Mild Prolapse, above.

  • P15 (PNC2) - Post natal Incontinence 2
  • P03 (EXE1) - Pelvic Exercises

Hysterectomy Programmes

If you have had a hysterectomy, we advise you use a mixture of programmes with a vaginal probe for best results. Use P15 for 3 days, followed by P03 Pelvic Exercise for 2 days, then repeat the cycle. Once you are happy with the results, maintain them by using P05 Weekly Maintenance twice a week.

If you have had a hysterectomy, it is important to get the all-clear from your GP or consultant before using an electronic pelvic toner, as they can make sure your body has had time to heal.

  • P15 (PNC2) - Post Natal Incontinence 2
  • P03 (EXE1) - Pelvic Exercises
  • P05 (EXE3) - Weekly Maintenance
