Getting the Most out of Your Probes

1. How to clean a Kegel8 probe

To remove all bacteria from a vaginal or anal probe, without causing any damage, we recommend our body friendly antibacterial cleaning spray – the Kegel8 Cleaning Spray. Simply spray a few times and leave the probe to air-dry or pat dry with a clean towel or tissue. Make sure not to rub the probe, as this can scratch the electrodes. You can do this before and after each use of your probe.

If you prefer not to use the spray, use warm water with a little antibacterial soap. Make sure you don’t get the wires wet above the plastic cover.

Keep your probe clean and damage free between uses by storing it alongside the wires and controller in the Kegel8 Carry Case. Avoid wrapping the wires of your probe around the your electronic toner as this can cause them damage, shortening the life of your probe.

2. How much lubricant gel should I use with my probe?

We recommend using our Kegel8 KE GEL Kegel Exercise Lubricant to help conduct the electric current from the electrodes on the probe, into the muscles. This ensures better conductivity for more effective muscle contractions.

Squeeze just a small tear size amount of directly onto the electrodes (the metal part) of your probe.

If you suffer with vaginal dryness or have difficulties inserting the probe, you may wish to use a little more lubricant on the whole probe. Just make sure you don’t use too much that it won’t stay in place.

3. How to insert and position the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe

  1. Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe
    £34.99

The Kegel8 range of probes are specifically designed to suit your body. Their small dimensions, smooth outer casing and curved edges mean they are easy to insert and comfortable to use.

Before inserting a probe, take a look at its design. Our bestselling probe, the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe , has a small ‘UP’ written on the base of the concave side. This side should face forward when inserted, facing your stomach rather than your back. The gold electrodes that are on each side should face each of your hips.

You may wish to use a small amount of Kegel8 KE GEL Kegel Exercise Lubricant to make insertion easier.

  1. Standing up is the easiest position to insert the probe.
  2. Hold the base, the end with the wires, and gently push it inside your vagina.
  3. Push the probe downwards a little as you push it into your vagina. This stops it from being easily pushed out.
  4. The probe should be inserted approximately 2 inches into the vagina, just far enough so that the electrodes are fully inside. But not as high as you would wear a tampon. The aim is to get the probe to sit on the muscle bed which may mean you need to insert the probe slightly further depending on your body.
  5. The wires should remain entirely out of your body.
  6. You can now move around and sit down comfortably with the probe in place.

4. How to remove the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe

To remove the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe, hold onto the bottom of the probe, not onto the wires. Gently pull and the probe will come straight out.

If you have difficulty removing the probe, you may wish to use a small amount of Kegel8 KE GEL Kegel Exercise Lubricant in the future.

Avoid pulling on the wires as this can cause weakness in the connection overtime, shortening the life of your probe.

Troubleshooting Issues

1. The probe keeps slipping out or turning around

You may be using too much lubricant which is causing the probe to move out of place. Make sure you are only using a very small amount of lubricant directly on the electrodes if this is an issue.

We would recommend either sitting up or laying down with a small pillow under you bum to raise your legs slightly, to stop the probe from moving. As your muscles get stronger you will find this stops happening so don’t give up!

Try the Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe which is our widest probe.

2. It is difficult to insert the probe, or it hurts to insert and remove the probe.

It may be that you are not inserting the probe correctly, are not using enough lubricant, or the probe you are using is not a good size for you.

We offer various probes , so you can select one that is smaller or you can use the skin electrodes with the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner instead.

3. How to test the leadwires of your Kegel8 probe

If you believe the wires of your probe have a fault, disconnect the probe from your unit and touch the two ends of the wires together. This will complete the circuit and the mA’s should go up as a result.

If you have any issues, give our Customer Care team a call on 01482 496 932.

4. How to test a Kegel8 probe

If you believe your probe has a fault, try the water test which mimics the connection the probe makes with your muscles.

  1. Plug your probe into channel A, on the left-hand side of your Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner controller.
  2. Ensure all wires are firmly pressed together.
  3. Set the controller to a P0 programme, not a PC programme (i.e. not a programme customised for you).
  4. Place the probe in a glass with a small amount of lukewarm water, enough to cover the electrodes. Make sure the wires stay dry!
  5. Turn on the controller and try to increase the mA’s up to 90.

If this works, it would indicate that the probe is not connecting correctly to the muscle bed when you have it inserted. If you are unable to increase the mA’s, it could be the lead wires that are damaged. Swap them out and complete the test again.

If you have any issues, give our Customer Care team a call on 01482 496 932.

5. Why does the mA drop after few minutes into a programme?

Each programme on your Kegel8 is different to treat different symptoms and some have multiple phases. The mA will change between the phases and can be manually adjusted during the programme if you stop feeling any sensation.

6. Can my Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner be used while I’m on my period?

Yes, you can use your Kegel8 while on your period. We do however recommend stopping during very heavy flow days. This is when the probe is more likely to move and become less effective. Extremely heavy bleeding can also damage the wires.

You may wish to use skin electrode pads rather than a vaginal probe during bleeds. Check your user guide for more information on which programmes can be used with the electrode pads.

7. Can my Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner be used when I'm using an oestrogen cream?

If you try to use your Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Floor Toner with severe vaginal dryness you will find it very uncomfortable and possibly not be able to increase the mA's to a suitable treatment level.

Oestrogen cream is often prescribed to treat vaginal dryness (vaginal atrophy). If you are using oestrogen cream, we recommend waiting a month before using your Kegel8 Electronic Pelvic Toner again. This will allow time to replace the lost moisture in the vaginal tissue and after this you will find that using the Kegel8 will be comfortable.

You can then use them alongside each other. But make sure you always wait for the cream to be absorbed fully before using your unit with a vaginal probe.
