ProFem Donut Pessary
The ProFem Donut Pessary is a medical-grade vaginal pessary designed to provide gentle yet effective support for women experiencing moderate to severe pelvic organ prolapse. Commonly used for second or third-degree uterine prolapse, as well as cystocele and rectocele, the donut pessary offers broad, evenly distributed support with comfort and discretion. Made from soft, flexible silicone, it can be easily compressed for insertion and removal and may be fitted by yourself or by a healthcare professional.
The donut-shaped design distributes pressure evenly within the vagina, offering gentle yet effective support without exerting excessive force on the vaginal walls. This makes the ProFem Donut Pessary especially suitable for postmenopausal women or those with sensitive vaginal tissues who may not tolerate firmer pessary styles.

Who is the ProFem Donut Pessary for?
- Women with second or third-degree uterine prolapse
- Those experiencing cystocele (bladder prolapse) or rectocele (bowel prolapse)
- Postmenopausal women requiring a gentle, evenly distributed support
- Women seeking a non-surgical, hormone-free prolapse management option
- Anyone needing a soft, flexible pessary suitable for long-term use
What makes the ProFem Donut Pessary special?
The ProFem Donut Pessary is designed to provide broad, cushioned support rather than targeted pressure. Its round donut shape distributes pressure evenly within the vagina, helping reduce discomfort while still offering reliable prolapse support. This makes it particularly suitable for women with sensitive vaginal tissues, including many postmenopausal women.
Made from body-friendly, non-allergenic medical-grade silicone, the pessary is extremely flexible and can be squeezed for easier insertion and removal. Once in place, it expands to its original shape, providing discreet and stable support throughout daily activities. The ProFem Donut Pessary is reusable, suitable for long-term use, and can be cleaned as part of regular self-care.
How to Use
- Apply a vaginal lubricant to the pessary if desired to aid insertion.
- Squeeze the donut pessary firmly to compress it into an oval shape.
- Gently insert the pessary into the vagina, guiding it upward and slightly towards the back.
- Release the pessary once inside and allow it to expand to its normal shape.
- Ensure it feels comfortable and is supporting the vaginal walls without causing pressure or pain.
It is in the correct position once pushed against the cervix and you can place a finger between the pessary and vaginal wall. The Pessary should feel secure and comfortable during daily movement. If you feel pain or discomfort, try a smaller size.
Removal - Insert two fingers to locate the pessary and compress the sides to release tension. Carefully ease it down and out of the vagina, squeezing as needed to assist removal. Use the inside of the Donut to help with grip if necessary.
How to clean - Clean regularly using mild soap and warm water, then rinse and dry thoroughly before reinserting.
How often do I need to remove the pessary?
If you are under the care of a healthcare professional and attending regular check-ups, the pessary may be left in place for over 30 days, and in some cases up to 3–6 months, depending on clinical advice.
If you are self-managing, it is recommended to remove and clean the pessary at least every 30 days, although some women choose to remove it more frequently or even daily if comfortable.
How do I select the correct size?
It is recommended that you seek advice from your healthcare provider before using this pessary to ensure the correct size is selected and that you receive guidance on safe and effective use. A healthcare professional can help confirm suitability, demonstrate insertion and removal, and advise on ongoing care to ensure comfort and optimal support.
