Finding Control: Theresa’s Kegel8 Success with Bowel Incontinence

Top UK Pelvic Floor Specialist Amanda Savage say's

'Bowel incontinence, also known as faecal incontinence, is when you have trouble controlling your bowel movements and it is thought that over 1 in 10 adults may experience this condition. While it can be distressing and embarrassing, seeking medical advice is important because there are treatments available that can help. Remember, you don’t have to put up with it—but it’s unlikely to get better on its own!'

Theresa's Kegel8 Success Story

Talking about bladder issues is often easier than discussing bowel incontinence, but there are many of us who quietly struggle with bowel control issues. I believe it's a topic that deserves understanding and openness.

For me, constipation hasn’t been an issue. My family has a history of piles, and I had my first one at age 12. Following my doctor’s advice, I’ve had a daily routine of All Bran, and later, linseed with muesli, which has kept me regular. However, my bowel incontinence began after knee replacement surgery. The procedure itself was successful, but the medications I was given left me without bowel sensation or control. Two weeks later, I stopped the drugs, and while my bowels were healing, my muscles remained weak.

After an encouraging and supportive conversation with a Kegel8 representative, I was recommended to try the Kegel8 Ultra 20, using both a vaginal probe and a bowel probe. To help others, I want to share what’s worked for me. I find the best times to use the kit are after supper or early in the morning, once I’ve emptied my bowels, to avoid any mess. I start by inserting the vaginal probe, then carefully position myself on the toilet to insert the bowel probe, marked with a ribbon for easy identification. I remove them in the same order to keep things as simple and clean as possible.

Sticking to a daily routine can be tricky, especially with unexpected schedules or travel. I did forget my kit once on a short trip and had to start again, but it’s been worth it. With persistence and regular use, I’ve now strengthened my muscles around the anus and have better control than I’ve had in years, which has made me feel much more comfortable.

"I wish I had heard about Kegel8 fifty years ago."

At 87, I'm truly grateful for finding Kegel8. If only I’d known about this after having my children all those years ago!
