Can Pelvic Floor Exercises Improve Intimate Sensation?
Your pelvic floor muscles do a LOT for you. They support all of your pelvic organs, aid in childbirth, control your bladder and bowel, but did you know that they are also responsible for your intimate sensations?
'Taking time out to deliberately exercise the pelvic floor muscles will bring blood flow to the area, tone and tighten the muscles and improve your ability to feel the walls of the vagina during sex. Many women report they are able to reach orgasm more easily, and that their orgasms are more powerful, after focusing on pelvic floor muscle exercises.' Amanda Savage POGP Physiotherapist
How Can Pelvic Floor Exercises Improve Orgasms and Sensation?
Your pelvic floor muscles play an important role in sexual function, sensation and orgasm. During orgasm, these muscles naturally contract rhythmically, so strengthening and retraining the pelvic floor may help improve orgasm intensity, sensitivity and overall sexual satisfaction.
Regular pelvic floor exercises can also help increase blood flow to the vaginal tissues and pelvic area, which may support natural lubrication, arousal and intimate sensation. A healthier, stronger pelvic floor can improve muscle tone, circulation and responsiveness — helping many women feel more connected and confident during intimacy.
Kegel8 takes pelvic floor training a step further by using NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) technology to strengthen both the pelvic floor muscles and the nerves that control them. This gentle stimulation may help improve muscle recruitment, nerve response and pelvic floor awareness, which can contribute to improved intimate sensation and stronger pelvic floor function over time.
Research has shown a positive link between pelvic floor strength and sexual wellbeing, including arousal, orgasm quality and confidence. Many women also report feeling more confident and comfortable during intimacy as their pelvic floor strength improves.
A stronger pelvic floor may also increase vaginal muscle tone and support, which can enhance sensation and intimacy for both partners.
How Do I Exercise My Pelvic Floor?
Pelvic floor exercises, often called Kegel exercises, are designed to strengthen the muscles that support your bladder, bowel and pelvic organs. These exercises can be performed manually on your own and are an important part of maintaining long-term pelvic health.
How to Perform a Basic Pelvic Floor Exercise
- Sit or stand comfortably with your knees slightly apart.
- Gently tighten the muscles around your anus, as if trying to stop yourself passing wind.
- Then tighten and lift the muscles around the vagina at the same time.
- Hold the contraction for around 5 seconds, then relax fully. Repeat 10 times.
- Next, perform 10 quick contractions by squeezing and lifting the muscles for 1–2 seconds before relaxing.
These “slow” and “fast” contractions help improve both pelvic floor strength and endurance.
Ideally, pelvic floor exercises should be performed three times a day as part of your daily routine.
Why Many Women Struggle with Kegel Exercises
Although pelvic floor exercises sound simple, many women find it difficult to correctly identify and contract the right muscles — especially if the pelvic floor is very weak following childbirth, prolapse, surgery or menopause.
In fact, many women unknowingly push down or activate the wrong muscles instead of effectively lifting and strengthening the pelvic floor.
How Kegel8 Ultra 20 Can Help
The Kegel8 Ultra 20 helps take the guesswork out of pelvic floor exercises by using gentle NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) to automatically locate, activate and strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles for you.
Even if your muscles feel weak or unresponsive, Kegel8 helps “wake up” the pelvic floor muscles and nerves, producing effective contractions that may be difficult to achieve with manual exercises alone.
This can help make pelvic floor training:
- More effective
- Easier to perform correctly
- More consistent
- More targeted for weak pelvic floor muscles
The Kegel8 Ultra 20 also guides your pelvic floor through both fast and slow muscle contractions, helping support bladder control, pelvic support, vaginal tone and intimate sensation more effectively over time.
