How to Clean & Care for Your Pelvic Floor Probe

Getting the Most Out of Your Pelvic Floor Probe

1. How to Clean Your Kegel8 Probe

Keeping your probe clean is essential for hygiene and performance. To effectively remove bacteria without damaging the device, use the Kegel8 Cleaning Spray.

  • Spray the probe a few times and allow it to air dry, or gently pat dry with a clean towel or tissue
  • Avoid rubbing the probe, as this can scratch the electrodes
  • Clean before and after each use

If you prefer, you can also use warm water with a mild antibacterial soap. Be careful not to get the wires wet above the plastic casing.

To keep your probe in good condition:

  • Store it safely in the Kegel8 Carry Bag
  • Avoid wrapping wires tightly around the device, as this can cause damage over time

2. How Much Lubricant Should You Use?

Using a conductivity gel helps improve the effectiveness of your pelvic floor exercises.

We recommend Kegel8 KE Gel Conductivity Gel, which helps the electrical impulses reach your muscles more efficiently.

  • Apply a small, pea-sized amount directly onto the metal electrodes
  • If you experience dryness or discomfort, you can apply a little more to the probe for easier insertion
  • Avoid using too much, as this may cause the probe to slip out of place

3. How to Insert and Position Your Vaginal Probe

Kegel8 probes are designed for comfort and ease of use, with smooth edges and a body-friendly shape.

Before inserting:

  • Check the probe orientation — the ‘UP’ marking should face towards your stomach
  • The electrodes should sit on either side, facing your hips

How to insert:

  • Apply a small amount of lubricant if needed
  • Stand in a comfortable position
  • Hold the base (where the wires connect) and gently insert the probe
  • Angle slightly downwards as you insert to help keep it in place
  • Insert around 2 inches, ensuring the electrodes are fully inside but not as far as a tampon
  • Keep the wires outside your body at all times

Once inserted correctly, you should be able to move around and sit comfortably.

Hold onto the base of the probe, not the wires   The probe should be inserted with the gold parts pointing to your hips

4. How to Remove Your Kegel8 Glide Gold Vaginal Probe

To remove your probe safely, hold the base of the probe (not the wires) and gently pull it out. It should slide out comfortably.

  • Never pull on the wires, as this can weaken the connection over time
  • If removal feels uncomfortable, try using a small amount of Kegel8 KE Gel next time to make insertion and removal easier

Troubleshooting Common Issues

1. The probe keeps slipping out or turning

This is usually caused by using too much lubricant.

  • Use only a small amount directly on the electrodes
  • Try inserting the probe while lying down or sitting, with a pillow under your hips
  • As your pelvic floor gets stronger, this will improve

If needed, you may benefit from a wider probe, such as the Kegel8 Glide Gold.

2. The probe is difficult or painful to insert/remove

This could be due to:

  • Not enough lubricant
  • Incorrect positioning
  • Using a probe that isn’t the right size for you

You can try:

  • Adding more lubricant
  • Checking insertion technique
  • Exploring alternative probe sizes or external electrode pads (where compatible)

3. How to Test the Lead Wires

If you think there may be a fault:

  • Disconnect the probe from your device
  • Touch the two wire ends together
  • If working correctly, the mA level should increase

4. How to Test Your Probe (Water Test)

To check your probe is working correctly:

  1. Connect it to channel A on your device
  2. Select a P0 programme (not a custom PC programme)
  3. Place the probe in a glass of lukewarm water, covering the electrodes (keep wires dry)
  4. Turn on the device and increase the mA level
  • If the mA increases → the probe is working correctly
  • If not → the wires may need replacing

5. Why Does the mA Drop During a Programme?

Kegel8 programmes are designed in phases to treat different symptoms. The intensity may change automatically. You can adjust the mA at any time if needed.

6. Can I Use My Kegel8 During My Period?

Yes, but we recommend avoiding use during very heavy flow days, as:

  • The probe may not stay in place as effectively
  • Excess flow can affect the wires

You may prefer to use electrode pads during this time (check your user guide for compatibility).

7. Can I Use Kegel8 with Oestrogen Cream?

Yes! If you are experiencing vaginal dryness, using a probe may feel uncomfortable. Topical oestrogen will help.

  • If starting oestrogen cream, wait around one month before using your device
  • This allows moisture levels to improve for more comfortable use
  • Always ensure the cream is fully absorbed before using your probe
