Who Should Avoid Using Contrelle Activgard Pessary
Contrelle Activgard may not be suitable for everyone. It’s recommended for individuals over 18 and is not advised during pregnancy or within three months postpartum. If you have vaginal infections, have experienced Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), or have recently had pelvic surgery, consult a healthcare professional before use. It’s also important to seek advice if you have a moderate to severe vaginal prolapse, are undergoing pelvic treatment, or experience significant vaginal dryness that causes irritation.

We recommend purchasing the Sizing Kit, which includes all three sizes to help you find your best fit, before buying a pack of 5 or 30 insertables.

Who can use Contrelle®?

Contrelle® is suitable for women with mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence, including those who experience leaks after childbirth or menopause.

How long can I wear Contrelle®?

You can wear Contrelle® for up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period. Most users insert it in the morning and remove it before bed.

Can I wear Contrelle® at night?

The recommended use is during the day. However, if you experience morning leakage, it may be worn overnight as long as the total wear time does not exceed 16 hours in any 24-hour period.

Can I use Contrelle® with vaginal oestrogens?

Yes — but please leave at least 4 hours between applying vaginal oestrogens and inserting Contrelle® to ensure proper absorption of the medication.

Can I exercise or swim while using Contrelle®?

Yes. Contrelle® is designed to stay securely in place during normal daily activities, including walking, exercise, and swimming.

How do I find the right size?

Use the Contrelle® Sizing Set before first use. It includes three sizes (1, 2, and 3) so you can find the most comfortable and effective fit.

How do I use the Contrelle® Sizing Set?

Start with the smallest size and follow the included instructions to insert and remove each size comfortably. The correct size will feel secure, comfortable, and effectively stop leakage.

How often should I replace Contrelle®?

Each Contrelle® pessary is single-use and should be discarded after removal. Always use a new one each day.

Why can’t I wear Contrelle at night?
Thank you for your enquiry. Contrelle is approved for use for up to 16 hours within any 24-hour period. To keep things simple and consistent for users and healthcare professionals, our standard advice is to use it during the day only.
Most women insert Contrelle in the morning and remove it before bed, as this covers the times when stress incontinence is most common.
If you experience morning leakage, there’s no technical problem with wearing Contrelle overnight — provided the total wear time does not exceed 16 hours in 24 hours. However, please note that this would be off-label use from a regulatory standpoint.
We’re currently conducting NHS evaluations and will consider including this scenario in future reviews. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
If you’re also using vaginal oestrogens, please leave at least 4 hours between applying the oestrogen and using Contrelle. This helps ensure proper absorption of the medication.
