VAT Exemption/Relief Explained
VAT Exemption provides a valuable benefit for individuals who are chronically sick or disabled. It allows them to purchase eligible items at a 0% VAT rate, thus reducing the cost of these essential items. The process of claiming VAT exemption is made simple, especially when shopping online, as our online store is designed to facilitate the process with a series of straightforward questions that can be answered in the comfort of one’s own home.
Eligibility for VAT Relief
The government has outlined the criteria for eligibility for VAT relief, which include:
- Charities that provide their charity number. Individuals who are considered “chronically sick or disabled” as defined by:
- Having a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and substantial impact on their ability to carry out everyday activities. Having a condition that is medically treated as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes. Being terminally ill.
It’s important to note that VAT exemption does NOT apply to individuals who are only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as those with a broken limb, or frail elderly persons who are otherwise able-bodied.
Proof of Disability
In order to be exempt from VAT, the government requires a simple declaration of the nature of one’s disability at the time of ordering. No proof of the disability needs to be provided to any party. All that is required is the name, address, and disability of the person the item is for, as well as information about their chronic sickness or disability.
Eligible Items
VAT Exemption is only applicable to certain items that have been designed specifically for use by individuals who are chronically sick or disabled. These items include, but are not limited to: bathing aids, mobility aids, toileting aids, continence products, and other daily living aids.
The initial weeks of motherhood are an extraordinary yet challenging time in your life. While you cherish precious moments with your newborn, the aftermath of childbirth, whether through C-Section or perineal trauma, can bring discomfort and pain, hindering your ability to fully embrace your role. Simple tasks like lifting, feeding, and bathing become more taxing under these circumstances. It's crucial to prioritize your own well-being to ensure you're equipped to provide the best care for your baby.

Collaborating with leading obstetricians, gynaecologists, women's health physiotherapists, and midwives, SRC has developed a range of products aimed at supporting your body during pregnancy and expediting postpartum recovery.
The SRC Recovery Shorts feature distinct panels tailored to address various areas affected by pregnancy:
- Back Panel: Provides support from T2 (upper back between the shoulders) down to L5 (lower back above the coccyx).
- Abdominal Panel: Aids in recovering from muscle separation (DRAM).
- Gusset Panel: Offers support from front to back following vaginal birth with perineal trauma/stitches or a C-section.
- Discreet and Comfortable
Engineered to mimic a second skin, the SRC Recovery Shorts in Mini Length:
- Utilize superior, breathable materials for discreet wear under clothing, ensuring comfort while aiding in daily recovery.
- Function akin to control underwear, offering support even after recovery to enhance confidence and well-being.
- Incorporate odour-eliminating properties to keep you feeling fresh and dry, especially during the postpartum period.
- Feature flatlock seams for enhanced comfort and to prevent irritation of wounds.
What Are the Benefits of Recovery Shorts?
Research indicates that gentle, medical-grade compression can prevent muscle deactivation, deter further tissue expansion, and promote blood circulation towards the heart. The SRC Recovery Shorts deliver cross compression through multi-layered support panels, ensuring consistent and anatomically targeted compression during movement.
By averting vein expansion and promoting healthy blood flow, these shorts facilitate expedited wound healing, whether from a C-section or perineal tears. Given that white blood cells are responsible for wound healing, it's imperative to use a compression garment that fosters healthy blood circulation to and from the affected area.
The materials used are designed for durability, with the ability to stretch and recover post-wear and washing. This ensures prolonged usage for complete postnatal recovery and beyond.
