Vaginal Atrophy & Dryness
Vaginal atrophy, also known as genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), is a condition that occurs primarily in postmenopausal women as a result of declining levels of oestrogen. Oestrogen plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and function of the vaginal tissues. When oestrogen levels decrease, the vaginal tissues can become thinner, drier, and less elastic. This can lead to various symptoms, including vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness refers to a lack of moisture and lubrication in the vaginal area. It can cause discomfort, irritation, and pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) as well as daily activities. Both vaginal atrophy and dryness can negatively impact a woman's quality of life and sexual well-being.
