Peri and Menopause

Perimenopause and menopause are stages in a woman's reproductive life that mark significant hormonal and physiological changes. These stages are natural processes that occur as a woman's body transitions from the reproductive years to a non-reproductive phase. Perimenopause, often referred to as the "menopausal transition," is the period of time leading up to menopause. It typically starts in a woman's 40s but can begin earlier or later. During perimenopause, there is a gradual decline in the production of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle and support fertility. As a result, menstrual cycles become irregular and may vary in length. Menopause is defined as the point in time when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. It marks the end of the reproductive years. On average, menopause occurs around the age of 51, but it can happen earlier or later.
